Born and educated in a number of schools around the world having been from a Forces family, Kevan attended College for only 1 day after secondary education had finished, feeling the need to earn some cash!
With various jobs under his belt in a relatively short space of time, Kevan undertook an electronics degree working in the office equipment industry, to then engage with a friend into a new venture of commercial procurement, which then morphed into energy procurement.
After 7 years working in that arena, Zenergi was born some 13 years ago and set up with his now wife Rachel from small beginnings in Fawley, Hampshire. Zenergi now employs just over 30 people with offices at the University of Southampton Science Park, Colchester, Birmingham, Rotherham and Manchester.
Zenergi performs an energy procurement, invoice validation and contract management service for over 1,300 clients stretching from Edinburgh to Lands End to Folkestone, which involves an annual procurement strategy of over £60m which Zenergi manages.
Kevan says “The team in the office are very passionate about what we call “the Zen Way” and this is how we look after our clients. Customer service is our main driver to make sure the customer gets what they want, not the “our systems can only operate this way” kind of mentality and all of the team are empowered to do whatever is needed; I guess this is why we have a 98.6% retention rate!”
Zenergi have been nominated for several customer service awards and won the New Forest Brilliance in Business Customer Service Award and Best in Business Award. They work heavily in the Education sector being the approved and exclusive partners to the two national school associations and engage through these to Government departments to promote value for money in public sector procurement.
Kevan is a trustee of an educational charity and has been a Governor of an Academy in Southampton for the past 9 years. Kevan & Rachel live just outside Winchester and have 3 children.
Kevin will be sharing his journey – the pitfalls and the successes – as well as some golden nuggets on customer service. This will appeal to anyone starting out, thinking of expanding or who needs to hone or rethink their customer service processes.
