Brenda thanked all the members, both present and absent, for their enormous support over the past two years, paying special tribute to Jane O’Kelly, the retiring Vice-President.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as President of the Club and have every confidence that Larch will fulfil this role splendidly”, Brenda commented as she stood down from office.

Larch took the remainder of the meeting, declaring her continued commitment to the Club to ensure that its professional corporate image would continue to be built upon, whilst maintaining its friendly and supportive membership. Following a wonderful Indian buffet provided by The Red Lion at Clanville, local theatre company Chester House Productions performed “Two Voices in Contrast”, a collection of amusing and clever pieces, demonstrating how the human voice can tell a wide range of stories by changing its tone and sound to portray differing emotions and characters. Vera Hughes and David Weller - 2 Voices in Contrast

Husband and wife team, Vera Hughes and David Weller, have delighted the Club’s members on many occasions with their skilful productions.

By popular request, members were treated to ‘The Dung Beetle’, a very amusing short story told by Vera and David, with their ‘voices in contrast’. Other pieces included ‘Animal Poems’ by Ogden Nash; a modern version, with a new twist, of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and a poignant and sensitive portrayal of an elderly couple’s regular visit to the cemetery in ‘Resting Place’.

Vera, a long-standing member of the Club, performed a short extract from Chester House Productions’ “Canberra Tales”, which is to be performed for the first time at Cricklade College on Friday 4th October. Written by Vera, members were treated to one of the amusing and modern interpretations, freely adapted from Geoffrey Chaucer’s, “The Canterbury Tales”. Performing ‘Love is …’, her own interpretation of ‘The Merchant’s Tale’, Vera told this fun and whimsical tale of ageing Janus and his young wife, Tamsin May who managed to outwit him when he discovers her with her young lover, Damian.
