July 2002 - Spooky!

Heather JamesNo-one could accuse the Andover Women in Business Club of not having a broad range of speakers at its meetings, if July's meeting at The Red Lion, Clanville, is anything to go by!

A Summer Barbeque was planned, but with rain pouring relentlessly, common sense prevailed and the indoor contingency plan came in to operation! The buffet table may have been indoors, but the food was, as always, superb.

Members waited in curious anticipation to hear their speaker, Heather James, who was to talk about 'The Spook Trade from Hocus Pocusville!' From speakers on business to speakers on clairvoyance, the Club has to be congratulated on its talent for drawing on professions of all types.

A self-employed clairvoyant, Heather James, explained that she also teaches Salsa and is a public speaker. Her light-hearted explanation of her psychic gifts was funny and enjoyable, and as bold and flamboyant as the way she was dressed!

Gently teasing the audience about its reliance on the likes of dream-catchers and feng shui, Heather spoke of her genuine belief that it doesn't matter what you believe in, if it works for you. Her belief that all answers come from within one's own sole, and not from anything spiritual, means that, even as a clairvoyant, she is not in a position to change people's lives.

A genuine spirit medium and believer in reincarnation, Heather admitted that it is not possible to prove or disprove such claims. With more people wanting to have psychic ability, a big commercial industry has grown up and 'spirit memorabilia' is now widely available. She voiced her concerns about people who dabble in the psychic world, risking doing more harm than good.

After an entertaining and witty evening, Heather's closing words were "If belief brings joy, howsoever acquired, there is no harm done."
