February 2004 - Beecourse Limited

Speaking with sensitivity and discretion, Mary Clegg, Managing Director of Beecourse Limited, gave members of Andover Women in Business Club an insight into how she set up her new, and flourishing, internet business. The February meeting, held at the Red Lion, Clanville, was attended by nearly 40 members, who listened with interest.

As a qualified masseuse, Mary Clegg is also a member of the Club. She has attracted considerable media interest since the launch of her website, which sells products of a sexual and sensual nature, with national coverage including stories in The Independent, Sunday Telegraph and Daily Mail.

When researching the need for such a website, Mary found that most other sites were pornographic and crude and did not deal with the sensitivities surrounding the subject. Beecourse.com is a non-pornographic site aimed primarily at middle class, middle aged, middle England. The site also has an on-line doctor who specialises in sexual health and psychosexual counsellors who are available to answer customers’ queries in a confidential and anonymous setting.

Beecourse.com describes itself as ‘The one stop shop for all your sensual needs’. The Company provides a discreet and sensitive website for people to access and select from a wide range of products to help couples to achieve more fulfilling relationships.

By her own admission, Mary is in her 50’s. The majority of the Company’s clients are aged between 40 and 70, reaching a clientele that finds it difficult to discuss sexual matters, having been brought up in an era when there was no sex education and talk about the subject was taboo.

With a mission to help couples to regain the spark in their lives, be they married, divorced, widowed, gay or lesbian, the website aims to empower couples to communicate. “Communications is something that is often lost over the years, particularly when bringing up children or leading busy working lives” says Mary. “We understand that for many people the subject is difficult or embarrassing, but the opportunity to order through the internet allows people to be anonymous and we have a strict confidentiality code.”

Andover Women in Business Club had a hand in Mary’s success, too! It was at a talk at one of its meetings, that Mary Clegg met Diane Veale of Relate, Winchester and learned from her that relationship difficulties are endemic. With 25% of Relate clients needing psychosexual counselling it was clear to Mary that help was needed.
