December 2004 - Christmas Meeting

Promised a surprise evening of ‘Christmas Past and Present’, around 50 members and guests attended the December meeting of the Andover Women in Business Club.

Filling the beautifully decorated room with a wonderful array of colour and sparkle in their attire, members enjoyed a welcome glass of wine before sitting down to enjoy a splendid traditional Christmas dinner provided by the Red Lion, Clanville. A huge table of festively wrapped raffle prizes beckoned and the sale of home-made Christmas puddings added to the mood.

As has become the tradition for the Club’s December meeting, the theme of the evening was kept under wraps and many reflected on the International Glamour of last year and the surprise arrival of a belly-dancer! With everyone clearly dressed appropriately for ‘Christmas Present’, members contemplated what ‘Christmas Past’ had in store for them.

After the picking of some raffle prize winners, the ‘Christmas Past’ part of the evening began – a traditional evening of party games! Starting with a game of Partners, members moved around the room to find their ‘other half’. With guests now in the party mood, hilarious games of Consequences and Simon Says followed.

Throughout the evening, the room was filled with hysterical laughter and members and guests were clearly having a wonderful time. More laughter followed during Pass the Parcel and its inevitable forfeits – never before have so many business- women in one room looked so silly! Joining in with the spirit of the evening, members contorted themselves to get a Pen in the Bottle and Musical Statues was taken surprisingly seriously by quite a few! Prizes were handed out and many were lucky with the raffle, which raised £150 for the Club’s current charity, Andover Family Learning.

All had great fun and the evening was concluded by thanks from Kate King, Club President. “I think we have all had a fabulous time and the committee wants to thank you all for getting into the spirit of the evening – and not sulking when you were ‘out’!” (But like all good parties, not everyone can win and the President herself went home sad there wasn’t the time to play her favourite game of Wink Murder!)
