December 2003 - International Glamour

Billed as an evening of ‘International Glamour’, the Christmas meeting of the Andover Women in Business Club was one of the most colourful yet! With a splendid turnout of nearly 60 beautifully dressed members and guests, the gathering at the festively decorated Red Lion at Clanville was a wonderful sight.

Many of the members went to great lengths to fit the bill, with sparkling saris and Punjab suits and outfits more normally seen in far away places. All attendees had made the effort to dress in their finest and a fabulous Christmas atmosphere filled the room.

Following a splendid dinner of seasonal fare, with crackers and streamers available to one and all, guests took part in a topical International Quiz, identifying locations from around the world. Christmas puddings were on sale for charity and a well supported raffle produced 35 winners and raised over £200 for this year’s Club’s charity, the Andover Family Learning Project.

As has become a tradition of the Club, the entertainment or speaker for the December meeting was kept a closely-guarded secret. With everyone dressed in their glamorous clothes, no-one had realised that the entertainment for the evening was seated amongst them! With looks of astonishment from around the room, one colourfully dressed lady stood up, moved to the front of the room, removed the scarf from around her head and tied it seductively around her hips.

As the bells on the scarf tinkled gently and eastern music filled the room, Tarin Jerling began to dance. What more international and glamorous than a belly dancer! Members in the room loved it and with little or no persuasion, joined Tarin in learning how to sway their hips and move around the room.

Tarin gave members an insight into the history and background of eastern dancing and brought the subject to life with demonstrations of the many moves that make the dancing so beautiful. A wonderful evening was had by all and the December 2003 meeting will go down as one of the best yet!
