Drink |
A night of glitz and glamour complemented the ‘Who Wants to be A Millionaire’ theme for the Andover Women in Business Club’s December meeting. More than 50 members and guests, most of whom were dressed richly in all things sparkly and stunning, attended the Christmas celebration, held at The Red Lion, Clanville.
Following a welcome drink, guests mingled and chatted happily as the party atmosphere grew. After a wonderful sit-down meal, featuring all foods festive, the Christmas raffle began and lucky recipients received a total of over 50 prizes, kindly donated by members, with a total of £164 being raised for a local charity.
Then the lights dimmed, the drums rolled, and compere, Larch Gauld, the Club’s President, opened the Quiz Show. First contestant was Pam Flanagan, who successfully reached £8,000 of correct answers. Following her was Penelope Eighan, who lost out to not knowing that Augustus was the first Emperor of Rome.

Brenda Locke finished the round of contestants with a very high £125,000, having answered a variety of questions, including ‘How many different names appear on the AWIBC chain of office?’ Brenda thought hard and correctly answered that, despite being in existence for more than 10 years, the Club has had only 8 different people at the helm.
Arms waved coloured cards to represent votes for ‘Ask the Audience’ and some guests looked embarrassed when, having been selected as ‘Phone a Friend’, the answer was the wrong one!

Still with a 50/50 chance left, Brenda did not gamble and
got her £250,000 question wrong, to a deep sigh from the audience. The
contestants were then presented with caskets and bags of chocolate gold coins
to represent the money they had won.
The ‘Glitziest costume’ prize went to Vera Hughes.
With a little time to spare, the audience took a turn; with the £1 million question ‘What does a Hagiologist study?’ fooling most of the audience. (He studies Saints’ Lives, of course!)
