August 2004 - Pimms Party

A delightful English garden, on a glorious summer evening, was the setting for Andover Women in Business Club’s August meeting. At the Club’s annual Pimm’s Party, to which members may bring their male partners, the talk was more of summer holidays and outdoor performances of Romeo and Juliet, than of business and work.

Sitting in warm evening sunshine, sipping bottomless glasses of chilled Pimm’s or home-made elderflower cordial, guests were treated to canapés to die for (the best I have ever tasted!), beautifully prepared and served by one of Andover’s newest small businesses, MRI Catering.

During an evening of unashamed relaxation and with thoughts far from the office, guests grazed on delicacies of miniature Yorkshire pudding, filled with roast beef, horseradish and mustard creme; smoked salmon on rye bread; tiny tarts, filled with mouth-watering egg and black roe; prawns wrapped in bacon and fabulous caramelised red onions on onion pastry. The food was wonderful.

Some members’ thoughts fleetingly considered the AWIBC Annual General Meeting, to be held in September, but were soon put on the backburner for more detailed discussion at the Club’s Committee meeting: the atmosphere was far too holiday-like to talk business! It was a refreshing change for members to include their partners – a concession normally only made to special events, such as the Rosemary Hawthorne, ‘Knicker Lady’ show recently held at Cricklade Theatre

Miniature home-made choc-ices and strawberries dipped in luxurious chocolate were served to conclude the evening, with guests reluctant to leave and already looking forward to the event of Summer 2005.
