April 2004 - Jenny Bird - Life Coach Following a warm April day, members of the Andover Women in Business Club met together at the Red Lion, Clanville, with the décor of clear spring colours and bright yellow Easter chicks. Over 30 members and guests enjoyed a splendid hot buffet, before an up-date on the Club’s forthcoming events and hearing the evening’s speaker. Tessa Makepeace, the Club’s Vice President and Marketing Co-Ordinator, enthusiastically reminded members about the forthcoming June meeting, when the Club is hosting an evening’s entertainment at Cricklade Theatre. Members, their guests and the public, are invited to see Rosemary Hawthorne, fashion and social historian, perform her one-woman show, ‘A Brief History of Unmentionables’. Rosemary Hawthorne, a former professional actress, now internationally renowned as ‘The Knicker Lady’, is a brilliant, entertaining and highly amusing speaker. Her performance, highly recommended by those who have seen her, promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
The evening’s speaker, Jenny Bird, a well-respected Life Coach, then took to the floor to explain how she helps people to achieve their goals, whether in their work or personal lives. “Coaching does for the rest of your life what a personal trainer does for your fitness” she said. “Coaching is an ongoing conversation entirely focused on moving you towards your goals, exploring options and setting targets.” Learning to identify what your goals are is the first step. Jenny can then help by coaching clients to follow small, positive steps to achieve them. Demonstrating her coaching in a brief 10-minute session with member, Mary Clegg, guests were impressed by the ease with which Jenny was able to get Mary to focus on her particular goal, looking in from ‘outside the box’. Life Coaching is an increasingly popular method used in business to motivate staff. Recognising that motivated staff are more confident, achieve greater success and tend to stay with employers for longer, management has been persuaded to invest in help from the likes of Jenny.
