July 2010 - Pueblo Ingles with Brenda Locke

Pueblo Ingles

The Andover Women in Business Group met for their July meeting at the Hampshire Golf Club. The meeting was well supported by existing members and their guests.

After an hour of invaluable networking and general catching up, a lovely meal was served. It was a very warm summer evening, and what better choice for an after dinner speaker than Brenda Locke and a short visit to Europe.

Brenda introduced the group to Pueblo Ingles – the literal translation of which means English Village. This particular village was near to Madrid, but there are several others throughout Spain.

These villages provide “free” holidays – fantastic accommodation, all inclusive with a full entertainment program. What’s the catch you might ask? Well actually what you have to give in return is your voice. You absolutely must speak English the whole time!

The purpose of the villages is to aid Spanish speaking people to practice talking and listening to English as spoken as a natural tongue. It is recognised that English will be the primary business language and there is nothing like using a language to really get to grips with it.

Brenda’s enthusiasm for the programme shone through as she had clearly had a very enjoyable time and made a lot of multi-national friends. Brenda spent a week in the village, and spent the first and last night in Madrid. The accommodation was shared by English and Spanish speaking visitors of similar age and sex.

The whole experience had been uplifting and everything you could possibly need was just a very short walk away. The social scene was buzzing every night and there was also an opportunity for self development. The talk concluded with Brenda’s demonstration of the human senses.
