January 2009 - The Poplar Farm Inn

Despite the freezing cold weather, many members and guests turned out on January 6th for our informal meeting at the Poplar Farm Inn, Abbotts Ann. The general consensus of opinion about this type of meeting is that it’s a great way to start the New Year but in 2010 (my - that’s a scary thought!) we will try an alternative venue. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control we were not able to have Sue Mowforth’s presentation but as it turned out this was no bad thing and it has now been arranged for next month.

Having selected a secluded area of the Pub we divided up into three tables. On our table, where we were joined by two of the three guests, we swapped ideas about our goals for the New Year and I was most interested to hear about Denise Claridge’s (guest of Sue Risdale) ambition to have her “home made” pies sold at Asda supermarkets. That really is aiming high.

The meeting broke up at about 9.30 pm and we look forward to hearing about Sue Mowforth’s experiences of the Olive Harvest in Palestine at the next meeting which is to be held at The Cricketers Arms, Tangley on 3rd February.
