Tuesday 4th December 2012 was our next meeting held at the Quality Hotel in Andover. Larch Gauld, who is always working tirelessly for AWIBC, sent out a menu and invitation to all and the meeting was well attended, despite the busy season being upon us.
We enjoyed a very good meal, and were made welcome by Manager Mark Lazenby and his staff. Nothing was too much trouble and he cheerfully distributed the Secret Santa gifts to us all. Sadly, he was not dressed as Santa. Maybe next year!
It was a good evening, lots of laughing ladies, who were shining and sparkling in silver and gold Christmas party wear. And Rosie Anderson rustled up a very enjoyable, brain teasing Quiz. She never disappoints us! Thank you Rosie!
I think some people were lured in with the promise of Denize Goodall’s delicious Christmas puddings being available to purchase! She spends many hours in her kitchen making beautiful, tasty Christmas puddings. My family enjoyed a nut free one last year, and again this year. It tasted absolutely gorgeous.
Our speaker was Paula Smith who kindly came along and told us about her fundraising 50th Birthday Event, held in December over a long weekend of 50 challenges. Paula has so far raised an impressive £1,044.92, for Blind Veterans UK (St Dunstan’s) , with another £200 to come from Woman’s Own magazine for the story. This is more than double the amount she’d hoped for. Her event also went out on ITV Meridian news as she was interviewed whilst sitting in a paddling pool of baked beans! – One of her 50 challenges. Well done Paula.
